چکیده

This paper presents a seismic fragility assessment of medium-rise reinforced concrete (RC) wall buildings, focusing on fishbone-type buildings with high densities and other features such as the presence thin unconfined walls subjected to axial loads significantly larger vertical irregularities. Such are typical residential in Chile countries. To do so, finite element models three index different levels load representing this class were developed using software DIANA. Nonlinear time-history analyses performed estimate engineering demand parameters (EDPs) for each building through multiple stripe analysis. Finding that existing component damage did not well capture these global local EDPs examined, recommending new limit states better aligned expected previously observed type capturing their critical characteristics (i.e., walls, loads, flag-shaped walls). study subsequently shows curves proposed states. The similar same building, whether or EDPs. On basis, it can be concluded either used reliably obtain analytical RC those considered paper.

Probabilistic assessment of the seismic damage in reinforced concrete buildings

The main objective of this article is to assess the expected seismic damage in reinforced concrete buildings from a probabilistic point of view by using Monte Carlo simulation. To do that, the seismic behavior of the building is studied by using random capacity obtained by considering the mechanical properties of the materials as random variables. Starting from the capacity curves, one can obta...

Plastic hinge models for the seismic assessment of reinforced concrete wall-type piers with detailing deficiencies

Plastic hinge models are widely used in earthquake engineering to predict the load-deformation relationships of reinforced concrete members. For the seismic assessment of bridges, it is appealing to use those relatively simple models if the response is predicted with sufficient accuracy. The applicability of these models to wall-type bridge piers with weak seismic detailing is examined. Flexura...

Seismic Behavior of Medium and High Strength Concrete Buildings

Current concrete technology has made higher concrete grades more affordable to mid and high-rise buildings; hence its use has been increasing in the late years as it allows for smaller cross-sections, reduction of the structure’s weight, improve durability, among other benefits. However, it is known that brittleness of plain concrete increases with the strength; therefore, some national codes h...
